The incredible TeamLab museums in Odaiba

Museums in Tokyo are among the must-do activities during a trip in Japan. Art museum or about science and technology, small exhibitions or places where you can literally spend the day, there is something for everyone. One of the most original and achieved is TeamLab Borderless. Located in Odaiba, it will offer you an amazing experience thanks to light technologies and will immerse you in a whole universe of sensations.

I am here talking about the biggest museum made by TeamLab, opened only in 2017. They already created a first museum in Tokyo few years ago, also in Odaiba, but smaller. They are similar in many ways but most of each exhibition is different. I will now introduce you both of the museum so you know which you would like to visit.

TEAMLAB PLANETS

Don’t under estimate the first TeamLab museum, even if it has been overshadowed by the new one recently, it worth it!

This one is organised as an itinerary, in other words, you follow pointers which indicates the way to go from one room to another. It’s good to know because it means that you cannot go back, but you can stay as long as you want in each room. In the same time, you go through many discoveries, following a way made by the creators and which makes sense. You let yourself be carried and that what makes the experience so exciting and enjoyable.

The reason why I love this museum so much is because it plays with all your feelings. You have the sight and hearing first with many lights and sounds, but also the touch. Indeed, some rooms are made with water, comfy floors or mirrors. In results, you have to go through the museum without any shoes on! It may sound weird and curious but it is actually really cool. Thus, from the beginning to the end, immerged in the relaxing atmosphere of this place, just like in a bubble. In the end, the visit offers you a little break from the world and plunge in a brilliant way into our own feelings and emotions with the creations.

TEAMLAB BORDERLESS

TeamLab Borderless is much bigger. His main asset is that it offers more rooms so more creations and experiences. We really can stay there for hours!

The creators re-use some ideas from TeamLab Planets, as the room with LEDs and mirrors, but add new ones and at a bigger scale. Even if there is most of the time a lot of people in there, the rooms are large and impressive, like the beautiful waterfall room or the one where we are immerged in a middle of hundreds of coloured lanterns.

The other advantage is that you can move freely in the museum. Thus, you can go back to the places you really liked, but above of all, it gives another aspect to the visit because you are like on an adventure, searching for the rooms in the dark, called by your curiosity.

Finally, we can say that TeamLab Borderless is more appropriate for kids. Upstairs, you can find many creations made especially for them, like a trampoline which make you feel like jumping into a galaxy, but also, slides, a drawing place, and so on. This part of the museum is more interactive, but it doesn’t refrain adults to try it anyway!

If you want to visit those musuems, I highly recommend to get a ticket online in advance. Thus, you will have an electronic ticket and you will be sure to get in the day of your visit.

Good to know : at TeamLab Planets, prices are lower after 7 pm and you can also have a student discount, which make it a lot cheaper than TeamLab Borderless.

They also have lots of exhibitions around the world, like for example in Paris last year.
